Forest and Private Road Surveys

It is generally thought that, because the funding available for strengthening of forest and private roads is usually very limited, forest road owners think that it is not economical to spend money for forest road surveys, diagnostics and design. However, recent experience from Scotland, Sweden and Finland show that this is not true and that a substantial amount of money can be saved by investing in road surveying and design.  For instance  recent ROADEX project tests, made in Sweden, showed that the forest road rehabilitation proposal made by Roadscanners, based on the measured road condition data and analytical design,  was from 14 to 51 % cheaper compared to other proposals made only by visual inspections. In addition the lifetime of this structure is substantially longer thus reducing the annual costs for the investments. This technique also preserves natural resources and reduces emission of carbon dioxide.
