Research and Development (R&D-projects)
Roadscanners has always been strongly interested and involved with research and development. The company has, over its history, invested 10-20% of its yearly turnover into research and development (R&D). This ensures that company products, services and knowhow continue to be at the top of the industry. In addition to internal R&D, Roadscanners provides research services to its partners and clients. Good examples of these projects are the ROADEX I-III projects in 1998-2007 and the current ROADEX IV project will last until 2012. ROADEX projects are partially funded by the European Union. These projects have been a success story and for the year 2009 the project received honorable mention in the EU North Star –competition.
Other bigger R&D projects that Roadscanners is currently working on are the Strategic highway Research Project 2 (SHRP2) and the MaraNord and Barents Low Volume Road Management projects.
Roadscanners has been doing R&D in order to develop an inspection method for railway material parameters such as ballast fouling, frost susceptibility potential and moisture condition of granular layers. Most of the R&D work has been done in co-operation with the Finnish Transport Agency and the Tampere University of Technology. Other research partners in railway projects have been HyGround Engineering in USA, University of Pretoria in South Africa, TTCI in USA and National Technical University of Athens in Greece.
